GM Canada Sales in August 2005

Oshawa, Ontario (September 01, 2005) – General Motors of Canada dealers and retailers delivered 39,306 vehicles in August 2005, a 3.6% decline over the same month last year. Passenger car sales for the month were down 7.3% to 19,512 units while truck sales increased by 0.6% to 19,794 units.
Marc Comeau, GM of Canada’s vice-president of sales, service and marketing said, “The Canada wide clearance sale featuring GM employee pricing for everyone has created terrific sales momentum throughout the summer and we have decided to continue GM employee pricing for everyone for an additional month to sell the remaining 2005 models. The program will now run until the end of September, 2005.”

Comeau added, “We need to step up the pace in September. While we are pleased with the rate of sales of our new entries we need to continue our focus on clear concise messages to consumers about GM’s safety and quality leadership.”

GM Vehicle Sales Highlights for August

GMC Sierra and Chev Silverado 1500 crew cabs continue to build their presence in the market with a 60% increase from August of last year.

Chev Malibu continues its growth path with a 21% increase over last August.

Pontiac Pursuit had the best sales month since its launch selling almost 1,500 cars and Vibe is up 38% over August, 2004.

Saab increased sales over last August by almost 70% to set a new record for the month of August and hit the second best month ever.

Cadillac passenger car sales increase 58% and Cadillac trucks were up over 17%

Calendar Year-To-Date Summary

For the calendar year-to-date ended August 31, 2005, GM Canada sales are up by 5.7%.

Oshawa built Buick Allure continues to outsell its predecessors by 57% CYTD.

GM’s small fuel efficient cars for Canadians, has sold 88,281 cars an increase of 11.3% over last year on a calendar year to date basis.

The GM small utility segment is lead by the Canadian engineered and built Chev Equinox with sales increase of 57.5% over August 2004.

Saab sales are up 31% over last year CYTD.
